The weekend already started with a bang on Friday with Angel & I going for our weekly dancing lessons. We usually dance on a Wednesday night but had to postpone to Friday due to a delivery of 200 cupcakes to Warmbaths! When we got home Angel got going on baking and icing more cupcakes for all the Saturday orders. (Visit http://www.angelscupcakes.co.za for a yummy look!)

On Saturday morning we loaded up my car to deliver some cupcakes in Hatfield, Pretoria. I think I should start putting some cupcakes signs on my bakkie! From there we took the 1 hour drive (which turned out to be a 2 hour drive to Meyerton to go and visit my sister before she leaves for a year to go and work on a cruise ship in the Carribean.

We could only spend a few hours there and then had to rush back to Bryanston in the North of Johannesburg. We were off to see Meryl who needed somebody to house sit her place and her mutitude of animals while they are away. We graciously volunteered Damien for the job, and he graciously accepted.

Sunday morning we went to visit SheBee at her pad, to go and pickup the two new members of our family, Diva and Turk. They are two cute kittens that will fit in perfectly with our family. The 3 boys, especially Magic, however were not very impressed with the new additions, hissing at each other through the door (We are keeping the little ones seperate for the time being).

Once the kittens were set and secure Angel and I were off to the shops to eat and to find Angel a hat. Yes, a hat. We had a Mad Tea Party to attend that afternoon. It was great fun. After the Tea Party, a hundred people dressed in funny hats made their way to The Zone at Rosebank to watch the 3D movie, Alice in Wonderland.

I enjoyed the movie, though my eyes still get’s tired from looking at too much 3D stuff.

When we finally got home Sunday night, I went straight to bed.

And here I am now.

It surprises me that people think that politicians only care about their personal power and gain.

It surprises me that people think politicians are there for the greater good.

It surprises me that people can be so stupid.

What brought on this post? I’m glad you ask. The other night at work me and a bunch of inDUHviduals got involved in a bit of a discussion about this here country of ours. And once again it just struck me as odd how these inDUHviduals tried to apply logic and the principle of the greater good to the hopeless state our politicians and goverment are in.

Wake up people. Politicians don’t care about the greater good. They don’t care about the masses. The don’t care about the state of the nation. All they care about is how they can gain more power or money from the way things are. They don’t want to stamp out corruption. If they did, they would not be able to be corrupt themselves. They don’t want to effectively fight crime. Why would they? The government is one of the biggest beneficiaries of crime.

And the worst kind of politician? The worst kind of a politician is the one who thinks he or she can make a difference.

And don’t start with the crap about it being so bad because it’s a black government. One thing the current black government has done very well is learn from the previous white government. Things were not better for the country during the apartheid years. The white politicians were not good. They were just as useless and corrupt. They just had more practice at hiding it. People are quick to forget just how unhappy they were with the NP.

Wake up people. This is a beautiful country we live in. Opportunities abound. Just open your eyes and look around. Stop waiting for the government to make things happen for you.

Your future is only as bright as you believe it to be.

And we were not dissapointed. I quite enjoyed the 3D effects even though I did find my eyes tiring after a while. It is after all quite a long movie.

On the movie itself? I quite enjoyed it. As have been mentioned numerous times by other people, there was not much to the story line. The special effects and overall quality of the move was spectacular though. If you go with too high an expectation you’ll probably not enjoy the movie much. But for a good fun to watch movie, Avatar is perfect.

Angel absolutely loved it. She was sitting on the edge of her seat most of the time. Not sure though whether that was due to the 3D or the movie itself. LOL

Overall, I found the movie enjoyable to watch and can recommend it to any one. Not sure though if it will be the same in 2D.

I’m back at work for the first time this year. It started relatively well until I realised I had forgotton my laptop power cable at home. At least I was able to make myself some lunch when I went home to pick it up. Oh, true to South African form, I was stuck in my first traffic jam going to work this morning. If there is anything that will bring me back to the reality that I’m back in South Africa, then a traffic jam is it.

Back in South Africa you say? Yes, for those of you who didn’t know, Angel and I spent 2 weeks in Australia, in a little town called Cooma. It was great fun, but only getting back Saturday afternoon makes me a tad sleepy today. In any case, Angel will most probably definitely be posting about our trip, so I will not bore you with details on this here blog. You’ll just have to wait until she starts churning out those posts. There are some pictures on Facebook already (only 200) so if you are friends with Angel, you can have a look over there.

When we got home on Saturday only half the house was a disaster (the half we didn’t lock before we left), so Sunday morning was spent spring cleaning (especially the kitchen), as the maid did not turn up for work on Saturday as she was supposed to. This means she did not clean the tornado named Damien, that had swept through the house, before we got home. At least nothing was broken.

I must say, there nothing quite like getting back in your own bed after being away for some time. I really did miss my bed. I’ll be telling it again tonight!

So, that’s all from me right now, in terms of a quick update.

Happy 2010!

2009 was a tough year for most South Africans, mainly due to the recession we found ourselves in. And, yes, we did go through a recession, and no, despite all the articles in business news papers, it is still the recession for most normal folk out there.  For a lot of people it also was very rewarding, especially on the relationship front (I won’t mention names).

So, now if I were to follow the usual trend, I should be listing my goals and resolutions for the new year. I should then compare it to last year and see how much I achieved, etc.

Just one problem. I didn’t have any new year’s resolutions last year, and I’m not planning on making any this year. To me it’s just a wast of time. Why wait for the year to end in any case to make plans and set goals. So basically, what I’m trying to say, is if you want to know what my resolutions are, you have come to the wrong place. Sorry.

Moving on…….

In  three days time, I’ll be squeezing myself into an aeroplane seat with my Angel next to me and head off to Australia. We are going to a little town call Cooma, which is……well…….in Australia. This will be Angel’s first time travelling abroad, so the nerves are getting to her a bit. But everything will be fine. At least they sort of speak English in Australia, as opposed to the time I flew to Miami, and all they spoke there were Spanish.

We are basically set for the trip. All we have to do is pack. Not looking forward to the 14/15 hour flight though. At least we are flying direct.

Christmas Eve will be spent with my parents, and Christmas day with Angel’s family. Boxing day will be spent at the airport! LOL

So, until next year. I will obviously not do a big post about our trip. I also won’t be posting a lot of pictures. I’ll leave all of that to Angel.

Better?

It was thus that while I was deciding on which interests I should pursue through my mentoring program for my first website, that fly fishing popped into my head. After doing some keyword research I was quite surprised at the potential. So, here is the start of my first website, all about fly fishing. Please remember that this is still a work in progress. I still have a lot to do.
